We built this because mainstream dating apps are designed around a personality type, and it isn't ours.
Those apps optimize for volume and speed. Endless profiles, a scoring system dressed up as a game, and an unstated expectation that you'll be charming inside two messages. If you're an introvert that's exhausting rather than fun. If you're shy it's actively unpleasant. Either way you end up performing rather than meeting anyone.
No swiping. You read profiles and write to people. That's slower, and it filters out an enormous amount of noise, because writing a sentence takes effort and people only do it when they mean it.
No pressure to be quick. Nothing on this site rewards you for responding within the hour or punishes you for taking a week. There's no streak, no timer, no counter.
A membership that already understands. Everybody here joined a site called Single And Shy. Nobody is going to ask why you'd rather have coffee than go to a bar.
Introverts, who find people costly and want to spend that cost well. Shy people, who want the company and dread the opening. Plenty who are both.
And a genuine number who are neither, and joined because they've worked out that the quieter person is who they get along with. That group is more common than new members expect.

Shyness and social anxiety aren't the same thing, and we're careful about the difference. Plenty of our members are quiet, nervous or out of practice and do perfectly well here. But if meeting somebody new brings on something closer to real dread, that's worth talking to a doctor about, and no website is a substitute for that.
We also don't think shyness is a problem to be fixed. There's nothing wrong with the way you socialize. You just need a way of meeting people that works with it instead of against it.
